The vineyards of the Charente and Charente-Maritime departments today make the largest single vineyard of white grapes in Europe. Most are used to produce Cognac or the other local speciality - Pineau. The area of Poitou-Charentes is known as 'Cognac Country' and also includes the picturesque Charente Valley with its ancient water mills and quaint villages.

Nestling on the banks of the river Charente, Cognac is a vibrant town which is home to the world-famous brandy that carries its name. The iconic brands including Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin and Camus, all offer tours for visitors.
