The vineyards of the Charente and Charente-Maritime departments today make the largest single vineyard of white grapes in Europe. Most are used to produce Cognac or the other local speciality - Pineau. The area of Poitou-Charentes is known as 'Cognac Country' and also includes the picturesque Charente Valley with its ancient water mills and quaint villages.
Nestling on the banks of the river Charente, Cognac is a vibrant town which is home to the world-famous brandy that carries its name. The iconic brands including Hennessy, Martell, Remy Martin and Camus, all offer tours for visitors.
The atmospheric Old Town is a joy to explore - why not take a stroll beside the Charente, and relax at a café for lunch - with a glass of Cognac, of course!
The delightful town of Jarnac is only 4km away. Also situated on the lovely River charente it is the home of Courvoisier brandy. It has a number of restaurants, banks, Jarnac is the closest town to Le Petit Moulin and offers amenities such as supermarkets, chemists etc.
A little further afield the town of Angouleme is within easy reach of Le Petit Moulin. The coast is also witihn day-tripping distance with the resort of La Rochelle just an hour and a half by car.
